The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme also known as the FIM has just renewed its FIM Grade A License
for the British track at Donington Park, the FIM has now confirmed that Donington Park is fully compliant to host this year’s
British Grand Prix in July, for the final time before MotoGP moves to Silverstone in 2010.
The licence was
issued after a thorough inspection of the circuit was completed by FIM circuit inspector Claude Danis on Friday. Mr Danis
then confirmed that all the works in the homologation requirements had been satisfactorily carried out, this includes the
recent alterations to re-instate the huge run-off areas on the outside of the circuit between McLeans and Coppice corners,
although due to the circuit contractors extending the new infield tunnel in the last two weeks.
The British
Grand Prix is a show case event and takes place on 24-26 July and once again James Toseland, who in recent times has failed
to shine in England suffering a disappointing home GP at the Leicestershire parkland circuit last year, Toseland will again
be cheered on by thousands of English fans, as his nation’s only representative in the premier class of MotoGP.
In the smaller capacity 125cc class the current series leader Bradley Smith will again be battling it out with another
talented young British rider in Danny Webb and last year’s race winner Scott Redding for a home victory.
Donington Park promises to be a fascinating round of the Championship.
